Product Description
The DTT1Z and DTT1SS deck tension ties provide strong, reliable lateral load connections that help decks meet the International Residential Code (IRC) requirement for a 750 lb. connection to the supporting structure at four locations per deck, as outlined in the 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2024 IRC R507.9.2(2). These connectors are ideal for both new construction and retrofits, offering a safe and code-compliant way to secure decks to homes—without the need to access interior floor joists. With models available in ZMAX and Type 316 stainless steel, the DTT1 series offers flexibility for a range of environmental conditions.
The DTT1Z is a ZMAX-coated tension tie designed for typical deck applications. It installs on the narrow or wide face of a single 2x joist using Strong-Drive SD Connector screws or nails, and can be anchored with a 3/8-Inch bolt, lag screw (with washer), or Strong-Drive SDWH Timber-Hex HDG screw. For added convenience, the DTT1Z is also available in the DTT1Z-KT kit, which includes (4) DTT1Z connectors, (4) Strong-Drive SDWH Timber-Hex HDG screws (SDWH27800G), and (26) #9 x 1-1/2-Inch Strong-Drive SD Connector screws—providing a complete hardware solution for one code-compliant deck installation.
The DTT1SS offers the same trusted design and installation flexibility as the DTT1Z, but is made from 316 stainless-steel for superior corrosion resistance. It’s ideal for coastal construction, high-moisture areas, and preservative-treated wood applications where zinc coatings may not be sufficient. The DTT1SS-KT is a four-piece kit packaged with all necessary stainless-steel hardware to meet IRC code requirements for four 750 lb. lateral load connections—supporting one complete deck installation. This includes (4) DTT1SS connectors, (4) Strong-Drive SDWH TIMBER-HEX SS screws (SDWH27800SS) with (4) 3/8-Inch 316 stainless-steel washers for the deck-to-house lateral load connection, and (26) #9 x 1-1/2-Inch Strong-Drive SD CONNECTOR SS screws for anchoring the DTT1SS to the deck joist. The DTT1SS-KT offers an all-in-one pre-packaged solution with everything you need to ensure your new or existing deck is code-compliant and ready to withstand the toughest corrosive environments.
Both DTT1Z and DTT1SS connectors deliver reliable performance and code compliance in a familiar format, giving contractors the strength, flexibility and corrosion resistance they need—whether the jobsite is inland or on the coast.
